What is Tesla Referral Program?
Instead of offering discounts or bargaining prices at dealerships, Tesla offers an individual code link which buyers and referees can get credits for free SuperCharger or other Tesla merchandise when they purchase a car or solar panels. It helps promote the transition of sustainable energy by offering an incentive to current Tesla owners to talk about their experience with the car to friends and family. The code can be used for any one purchasing worldwide, Tesla’s site will redirect you to your home country.

How to Use?
Each participant has a unique code/link which takes you to a page where you can choose a Model S, X or Y. Even if you go to the store, they ask you to order online. The store more or less functions as a showroom with helpful advisors. Test drives for new Model 3+ are now available in Canada. You will have the car to yourself - Tesla tracks their cars so they know where they are at all times, therefore, doesn’t need to sit with you in the car.

Federal Point-of-Sale Rebate
Up to $5,000 rebate for individuals purchasing vehicles with a base MSRP* under $55,000 before including delivery centre fees and up to max $65k. SUVs qualify up to MSRP $70,000 before delivery centre fees. View Transport Canada’s website for eligible trims.
Note: Business customers receiving the Federal point of sale incentive may not be able to claim the write-down proposed by the 2019 federal budget.

After I order, what’s next? You will get a text confirmation and email to setup a Tesla Account. Completion of the next steps determines when you will be paired with a car. Don’t worry, if you don’t complete the steps, then Tesla won’t pair you with a car yet or if you are not ready to take delivery yet.
6 Steps to SETUP YOUR TESLA ACCOUNT order
1. DELIVERY LOCATION
You can select:
At your home: If you are less than 30 km from a Tesla store or over 360 km - it can be delivered on a truck bed.
At a nearby store: If between 30-360 km. For best service, Tesla recommends you do delivery at the store. All deliveries are contact-less if preferred.
2. REGISTRATION
For car registration, you can choose for personal, for business or for joint accounts. You will then upload your driver licence photo. Note: you cannot change this later once you have decided on one without contacting Tesla.
3. TRADE IN

If you submit before, it will automatically link to your account with the same email you order your Tesla. You can also submit it after you make an order. To get a more accurate estimate, you will have to enter your mileage and type of vehicle followed by several photos of the front, back, interior, driver side and passenger side profiles of your car. Tesla will then get back to you within 24 hours of credit available. To be very honest, the credit you get is fair value and generic. Tesla uses an algorithm to give a fair value to all customers. It is likely you will get a higher trade-in value if you sell it yourself or find a dealership. The plus side, is Tesla will apply the credit, effectively reducing the tax you will have to pay on the car, and take your car away during the trade-in. If you don’t like the estimate, you can always opt-out in trading in your car on the main menu. If you are worried about not having a car because you’ve sold it earlier, you can arrange Tesla to drop off your new car at your home or arrange someone/UBER to drive you to the nearest Tesla center.
PLATE TRANSFER?
Tesla will set you up with a new license plate. In Ontario, you will get a green plate. If you already have one, you can choose to use your current plate and transfer the remaining credit or keep it once the trade-in occurs. Your current plate value sticker can be refunded for the remaining credit at a local Ontario Service center.

Note: If you return your car after the 7 day trial period, you will not get your original trade-in car back. You will only get the credit in cash back.
WHAT IF I WANT TO CHANGE SOMETHING?
Tesla allows you to make any modifications without any price changes up to 3 days after you have made your order. Afterwards, you will have to bare any price changes if you decide to change it before delivery. You can also cancel your order anytime before you get your car.
CAN YOU APPLY THE TESLA REFERRAL CODE AFTER ORDERS?
You can apply the code after you have ordered but before you take delivery. You just need the code and send an email to a Tesla Advisor so they can apply the code for you.
4. PAYMENT METHOD
The options are: CASH, LEASE, or LOAN through TESLA or through a self-arranged loan i.e. through a Canadian bank.
If you have the cash and want to avoid any interests and keep the car without any limitations, pay in CASH. If you’re planning on purchasing a home or opening a loan for a business in the near future, having less debt is always advised.
LEASING is popular in Canada because of tax-write offs are easier. The whole amount can be written off, but note that after the lease, you cannot buy back the car. Tesla plans to keep their vehicles afterwards for their self-driving taxi service. Also, leasing have limitations to the distance you drive and the condition of the car you have to bring it back. If you end your lease early, you also have to pay hefty fines.
Finally, if you want to keep the car but pay monthly, then the LOAN option is your best choice. Taxes can be written off depending on your situation for business use.
Current Interest Rate for Tesla Loan:
~7% for up to 6 years.
Note: The 4.6% interest rate APR is generic and hasn’t been updated for a long time. The current rate will be applied and tends to be much lower than advertised.
5. CREDIT APPLICATION WITH TESLA ARRANGED BANK LOANS
Even the credit application is done online. You fill in the form with your SIN number, information about your income and monthly expenses, and at the end, you decide how much you want to pay monthly. After you submit it, Tesla will approve you within 24 hours with the interest rate. This will be valid for the next 30 days. Currently, the loan is arranged with Scotia Bank. You also have the option to seek a loan by yourself through your own bank as well.
6. INSURANCE
Proof of current insurance is required. You will need to take a picture of it and upload it to Tesla. After submission, Tesla will draft the final documents to prepare for your delivery.
Delivery
Tesla will text you or call you when your car is ready for pick up. You can pick you date and time online.
Final Payment
It can be ACH (direct bank transfer), bank draft cheque, or cash. The final amount cannot be done by credit card (the inital deposit can be).

NEXT STEPS
HOW TO TAX WRITE-OFFS FOR EV?
You can only take a Tax-Write off OR the EV incentive, not both. The 2019 Budget proposed a 100-per-cent write-off for zero-emission vehicles to support business adoption. Eligible zero-emission vehicles include, a motor vehicle that is a plug-in hybrid (with a battery capacity of at least 7 kWh) or vehicles that are fully electric or fully powered by hydrogen, including light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles purchased by a business. This measure applies to eligible vehicles purchased and becoming available for use on or after March 19, 2019 and before January 1, 2024. Where the capital costs for eligible zero-emission passenger vehicles (e.g., cars and SUVs) exceeds $55,000, the 100 per-cent write off will be limited to $55,000 plus the federal and provincial sales tax that would have been paid if the vehicle was purchased for $55,000.
Vehicles in respect of which an incentive is paid under the new federal Incentive for Zero-Emission Vehicles Program will be ineligible for the 100-per-cent write-off.

WHAT ARE MY HOME-CHARGING OPTIONS?
Every Tesla car comes with a portable standard 120 volt plug that you can plug into a standard Canadian outlet. While it might work for most, who have a daily commute of less than 20km, the best experience is to get an electrician to install a 240 volt NEMA 15-40 outlet. Then you charge the car at home by purchasing a NEMA Adapter from Tesla ($45) and a wall charger holder to transform your mobile charge as a permanent fixture. Otherwise, you can install a Tesla Wall Charger ($635) and keep the mobile charger in the car for emergencies. Make sure you order these at least 1-2 weeks before you plan to install the charger or pick up your vehicle.
WHAT IS THE COST OF SUPERCHARGING IN CANADA?
Approx. $0.26 CAD per kw hour. Gasoline cost assumes 11.8 liters per 100km at $1.10 per liter.
That means if you get 1500 km free supercharging, it is essentially $60-80 credit to get you started on your road trip adventures.
